Network software company Mavenir has appointed a former Ericsson executive to develop new business in enterprises and industries.
At the same time the company, based in Texas, is stepping up its efforts to promote its rich communications services (RCS) business messaging system to mobile network operators, saying it has built up “a solid ecosystem of partners”.
The former Ericsson executive is Aniruddho Basu, who worked for the vendor in India and Sweden from 2003 until earlier this year. He is senior vice president and general manager of emerging business at Mavenir, and will be based in Stockholm.
He will focus on finding markets for Mavenir’s solutions in 5G, internet of things (IoT) and digital transformation, with offerings including enriched communication and private networks.
President and CEO Pardeep Kohli said: “This new business focus will enable Mavenir and our channel partners to expand their addressable market, generate new revenues, and create a thriving digital marketplace and ecosystem.”
Basu said: “These advanced services will be built and deployed as micro-services on elastic infrastructure, through agile DevOps processes, and delivered through value added resellers, system integrators, mobile operators and other technology partners.”
Meanwhile the company says its messaging ecosystem of partners “is prepared to bring brands and content onto the RCS channel, expanding the A2P [application-to-person] messaging revenue and opening new revenue opportunities in conversational commerce, customer service and digital advertising for mobile operators”.
The company says the RCS ecosystem has grown to 60 members, including aggregators, chatbot and business application developers, and communications platform as a service (CPaaS) providers.
Mavenir expects six RCS business messaging deployments to go live in Europe and North America before the end of the year. Guillaume Le Mener, senior VP and general manager of business mobility solutions, said there are now 257 million monthly active users of RCS.
He said: “The ecosystem will be a critical success factor combined with our vast RCS messaging expertise, collaboration with GSMA, and mobile operator reach to make RCS business messaging the channel of choice for mobile engagement with GSMA’s forecast 831 million RCS users by the first quarter of 2021.”―Capacity Media
