Massive Fire Engulfs Tata Telecom Company’s Godown, Spreads To Two Adjacent Factories

A massive fire engulfed Tata telecom company’s godown on Wednesday morning, which further spread to two adjacent companies on Baghpat road in Meerut. Plastic material, iron and other packing material stored in the telecom company’s godown, which stocked telecom tower manufacturing items, got burnt in the fire. Fire officials say that the reason behind the fire might be a short circuit. As many as 10 fire tenders were forced to action to douse the fire.

“The fire started from the Tata telecom company’s godown at 7:30am on Wednesday and spread to two adjacent factories too. While one of the factories dealt in book binding, the other stored beer. The fire was controlled timely and did not do much damage to the two other factories,” said Ajay Kumar Sharma, Meerut chief fire officer.

As the fire started on Wednesday early morning, nobody was inside the factories, and hence no casualties were reported. Beer cans popped open due to the fire at the beer factory here.

“Prima facie, it looks like a short circuit caused the fire. It is raining heavily in Meerut, and any loop hole in the wiring system could have led to a short circuit. As many as 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire which was extinguished only till 1pm on Wednesday,” said Sharma.―Times of India
