MAIT seeks further extension for mandatory security testing

Telecommunications Engineering Centre, DoT, on March 28, 2024, granted an extension of mandatory security testing (ITSAR) of Wi-Fi CPE and IP router on integrated MTCTE and NCCS (National Centre for Communication Security) portal from April 1, 2024, to July 1, 2024.

With the deadline approaching, the Manufacturers’ Association of Information Technology (MAIT) has written to DoT requesting a two-year extension. The industry finds that just three labs are insufficient for the test that takes six months, and the cost of Rs 50 lakhs is too high.

In fact, the industry maintains that security certification must be voluntary.
