LG Uplus, Nreal To Launch AR Glasses In South Korea In 2020

South Korean mobile operator LG Uplus has signed an exclusive deal with mixed reality display developer Nreal to launch augmented reality (AR) glasses on the local market in early 2020, Yonhap news agency reports. LG Uplus unveiled the Nreal Light AR glasses to demo its AR applications on LG Electronics’ 5G smartphone V50S ThinQ. LG Uplus reports it will run a test service available on Nreal Light in its 35 outlets as well as pop-up stores over the next few months before starting to sell the product in the first half of 2020.

LG Uplus said it will showcase a wider range of 5G-based mixed reality content, including telepresence, AR showrooms and three-dimensional AR educational content. Song Dae-won, head of the future device division at LG Uplus, says customers will be able to access new services with LG Uplus’ 5G content and Nreal Light.

Japanese operator KDDI recently signed a partnership agreement with Nreal to develop smartglasses using XR technology. KDDIis testing the ‘Light’ smartglasses technology developed by Nreal.―Telecompaper
