LG Sees Smartphone Sales Improving In Taiwan

LG Electronics has seen sales of its smartphones improve gradually in the Taiwan market and will continue to enhance its deployment by introducing new models into the local market, according to Vincent Chen, assistant vice president of the mobile communications business unit at LG Taiwan.

LG will launch some upgraded versions of its existing models available in Taiwan in the second half of 2019 as it aims to become one of the top-10 vendors in the local market by the end of the year, Chen said.

To reach that goal, LG is also evaluating the possibility of bringing some new models which the company plans to unveil at IFA 2019, into the local market, Chen revealed without naming the new models.

Sales of LG’s smartphones have been brisk in Korea, and LG is currently also the third largest handset brand in the US, trailing Apple and Samsung, Chen noted.

LG has launched its Q60, V40, K9 and K11 in the local market so far this year and plans to release an upgraded version of K9 and other new models soon to meet the demand in the fourth-quarter shopping season, Chen revealed.

The top-10 handset vendors in the Taiwan market in July were: Apple (26%), Samsung (22.1%), Oppo (9.9%), Asustek (8.6%), Huawei (6.6%), Sony Mobile (4.9%), HTC (4.7%), Redmi (3.8%), Xiaomi (2.7%) and Vivo (2.2%), according to data compiled by local channels.―Digitimes
