KT Ties With American Tech Firms To Develop 5G Ecosystem

South Korea’s top telecom company. KT, tied up with two American tech firms, Intel and Qwilt, for the development of a fifth-generation (5G) ecosystem required for the telecom renaissance to be brought by the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Under a memorandum of understanding with Intel, KT will use Intel’s latest processor, memory, storage and networking acceleration technologies to design an Edge platform for 5G content delivery. KT hopes to complete platform design and verification by the end of the year for the commercialization of 5G services next year.

Using the technology of Qwilt, the leading provider of open caching, KT will build a mobile content transmission network. Caching refers to the technique of temporarily storing data on a separate server and then transferring it as needed.

Qwilt’s unique cloud platform and open caching software solutions help Internet service providers address the dramatic growth of streaming media on their networks and the need for a low latency, high scale infrastructure to support future applications.

South Korean firms are trying hard to commercialize a 5G mobile network ahead of China and any other countries. Under a strong government initiative, KT and other domestic companies have agreed to join hands for the joint commercialization of 5G services in March next year. – Aju Daily
