Jio ties up with Nokia and Ericsson for 5G SA network

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. yesterday placed multi-year orders on both the European vendors for its 5G gear. The telco plans to deploy a 5G standalone network which will interwork with its 4G network.

Under the contract, Nokia will supply equipment from its AirScale portfolio, including base stations, high-capacity 5G Massive MIMO antennas, and Remote Radio Heads (RRH) to support different spectrum bands, and self-organizing network software. Nokia is now supplying to all the three private telcos.

Jio is sourcing their radio access network deployment in the country from Ericsson. This is the first time the telco has placed an order on Ericsson. The vendor’s energy-efficient 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) products and solutions (from the Ericsson Radio System portfolio) and E-band microwave mobile transport solutions will be deployed in the 5G network for Jio.

The announcements did not divulge the deal sizes.
