ITU-T study group responsible for cloud, trusted network infra reconstituted

Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) is a technical arm of Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. It has been mandated to prepare specification of common standards with regard to Telecom network equipment, services and interoperability. It also formulates Standards and Fundamental Technical Plans and interacts with multilateral agencies like APT, ETSI and ITU etc. for standardization. For contribution in International Telecommunication Union – Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) Study Groups, TEC has National Working Groups (NWGs) corresponding to respective ITU-T Study Groups (SGs).

It is pertinent to mention that the ITU-T Study Group 13 (ITU-T SG-13) is responsible for studies relating to the requirements, architectures, capabilities, and APIs as well as softwarization and orchestration aspects of converged future networks (FN), specifically focusing on IMT-2020 non-radio related parts. This also includes IMT- 2020 project management coordination across all ITU-T study groups and release planning and implementation scenarios. It is responsible for studies relating to cloud-computing technologies, big data, virtualization, resource management, reliability and security aspects of the considered network architectures. It is responsible for studies relating to FMC, mobility management, and enhancements to existing ITU-T Recommendations on mobile communications, including the energy-saving aspects. Furthermore, ITU-T SG-13 responsibility includes studies on emerging network technologies for IMT-2020 networks and future networks, such as Information Centric Networking (ICN)/ Content Centric Networking (CCN). ITU-T SG-13 is also responsible for studies relating to standardization of concepts and mechanisms to enable trusted ICT, including framework, requirements, capabilities, architectures and implementation scenarios of trusted network infrastructures and trusted cloud solutions in coordination with all study groups concerned.

The broad areas of study for NWG-13 will be same as those of ITU-T SG-13. The objective of the NWG-13 is to contribute to ITU-T SG-13 keeping in view the interest of Indian Telecom Sector. The NWG-13 shall build consensus and harmonize the interests of various stakeholders and proactively make necessary contributions to ITU-T SG-13. The contributions from India developed through NWG-13 and submitted to ITU-T SG-13 shall be towards inclusion of Indian requirements in the ITU-T recommendations & standards. The NWG-13 is being reconstituted for the Study Period 2022-24 under the chairmanship of DDG (Mobile Technologies), TEC.

As the development of contributions is a consultative process, nominations of subject matter/ domain experts are solicited for reconstitution of NWG-13 for the Study Period 2022-24.
