Indian organizations require cloud management tools, IDC

In a recent International Data Corporation (IDC) research titled “Hybrid/Multicloud: Embracing multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud strategies with right set of management tools”, IDC analyzes the cloud preference of Indian organizations and the different ways in which they can address the management challenges.

Cloud adoption in India continues to increase over the years, specifically triggered by the remote and digital operations during the pandemic, and now transitioning to the next step of running a viable digital business through hybrid/multicloud adoption. Cloud has become a critical element of organizations’ IT to meet the changing customer requirements and remain competitive during uncertain times.

As per IDC’s Asia/Pacific Cloud Survey 2021, the IT infrastructure decisions of Indian organizations indicate the inclusion of not only hybrid and multicloud strategies but also relevant management tools. As per the survey, Indian organizations are considering workload portability, consistent software-controlled infrastructure, and hybrid public and private cloud architectures to be critical for their IT infrastructure decisions.

As of 2022, the economic uncertainties are persistent due to IT supply chain challenges, labor shortages, geopolitical tensions, and inflation. In such scenarios organizations tend to focus more on being resilient and managing to spend effectively. Managing the cloud and/or clouds that form a significant share of organizations’ IT spending in India becomes a pressing need. As of 2021, less than one-third of Indian organizations surveyed use a common set of management tools for administering their multiple clouds (public and/or private).

“As organizations are transitioning to hybrid multicloud environments, having a holistic view of their IT environment becomes critical. Lack of visibility makes organizations more vulnerable to security and operational risks, etc., ultimately impacting their resiliency. Therefore investing in tools that act as a single pane of reference for all of the cloud is key for operational and business excellence,” says Rithika Ponnala, Senior Market Analyst at IDC India.

There are different tools for managing a hybrid multicloud environment. Cloud management tools (often marketed as hybrid cloud management and/or multicloud management tools) are available for deployment on-premises and via software-as-a-service (SaaS) by vendors such as IBM, VMware, and Micro Focus among others. These solutions enable organizations to streamline management and workflows, provide visibility (cost and operational) across on-premises and clouds, incorporate automation capabilities for intelligent resource provisioning (based on load), reduce cloud spending, and optimize performance.

“Increased cloud adoption and digital transformation come with increased challenges of integration, coordination, faster data processing, automation, government regulations, and security. It is vital for organizations to gain visibility into their hybrid/multicloud landscape to effectively govern cloud consumption and align with business priorities,” says Neha Gupta, Senior Research Manager at IDC India.
