Indian Army inducts first indigenous chip-based 4G mobile base station

In a groundbreaking move, the Indian Army has inducted the first-ever indigenous chip-based 4G mobile base station, procured from Bangalore’s Signaltron via the government e-marketplace portal, according to a top company official.

Himamshu Khasnis, founder of Signaltron, said that the chips used in the Sahyadri LTE base stations were developed by Signalchip. Signalchip, a fabless semiconductor company founded by Khasnis in 2010, focuses on producing chips for 4G and 5G networks.

This marks the first time that an Indian system running on an Indian chip for complex communication technology has been inducted into the army, enhancing control over system security. The army’s bid on Government e-Marketplace led Signaltron to propose the Sahyadri NIB solution, which successfully passed rigorous technical trials to win the bid. PTI
