Huawei TV business also affected by US trade ban

Huawei reportedly have reduced its components orders for TV production by 30-40%, as the US trade ban that limits the company’s access to semiconductor parts has also affected its business units other than chips and smartphones, according to industry sources.

Huawei has been forced to cut its TV components orders as it has been unable to secure sufficient supplies of related semiconductor components for TV production, said the sources.

Huawei has also established a policy to expand its offerings beyond smartphones to include PCs, tablets, TVs, smart speakers, smart glasses, smart wearables and other IoT devices.

The company began offering Honor-brand TVs and Huawei-brand smart display products in 2019, using LCD panels, mainly 55- and 65-inch models, from BOE Technology and China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), while outsourcing the production of TV sets to a BOE subsidiary, the sources indicated.

Huawei’s TV business will be undermined further in 2021 if it fails to address the supply issue for related semiconductor components, commented the sources. DigiTimes
