Gujarat loses 42 lakh telecom subscribers as users prefer 5G, stricter norms

With new technologies like 5G, strict measures imposed for obtaining new connections, to curb sim frauds and phishing technologies available, and hike in telecom tariffs, several mobile users are discontinuing multiple connections.

With a sharp rise in the number of cases of sim frauds and phishing reported, the department of telecom has recently tightened rules for verification of customers seeking to obtaining new mobile numbers.

This has led to slowing uptakes for newer connections, indicate industry players.

Getting rid of multiple connections is yet another reason. The introduction of 5G technology played a key role here.
