Google To Build Cloud Facility In Indonesia

Google has revealed plans to bolster its Google Cloud Platform presence in Indonesia next year in a bid to build a larger customer base and business. According to The Jakarta Globe, the move is in line with Google’s $30 billion investment APAC over the past three years for cloud computing infrastructure.

The move will make Indonesia the eighth country in the region to house a cloud facility, the report added. Other markets with cloud facilities include Singapore, India, Taiwan, Australia and Japan. Moving forward, Google aims to launch more cloud facilities in Osaka (Japan) and Hong Kong.

Through the move, Google aims to enable customers to enjoy high-speed connectivity and cloud-based data, as well as mitigate network latency, Rick Harshman, managing director of Asia Pacific at Google Cloud said. Clients already using the Google Cloud Platform product include taxi operator Blue Bird Group, CT Corp, Sale Stock Indonesia, GO-JEK, Tokopedia, Traveloka and Emtek.

Google is continuing to build its local partner ecosystem to support customers as they move to the cloud and already has deep partnerships with a multitude of born-in-the-cloud partners in the region . The opening of the Indonesia cloud region creates opportunities for new cloud partners to drive transformation utilizing Google Cloud Platform technologies.

Tim Synan, head of Southeast Asia, Google Cloud, said Google has had a long-standing commitment to Indonesia and continues to hire locally in order to provide support to the rapidly growing number of customers in Indonesia.

“Google is investing in programs to help Indonesian startups scale their businesses globally and providing digital skilling classes to help small businesses get online and find new customers. With these investments we want to help Indonesia become a digital powerhouse in Southeast Asia,” he said.

The move also follows the tech giant’s recent plans to open a third data centre in Singapore to support the growing number of Internet users in Southeast Asia. The expansion brought Google’s total long-term investment in its data centres in Singapore to US$850 million.

Plans to launch a Google Cloud Platform region in Hong Kong this year first emerged in Novemberlast year. By opening this region, the tech giant said customers in Hong Kong will benefit from low latency and high performance of their cloud-based workloads and data. – Marketing Interactive
