Five Ways To Jump On The 5G Bandwagon

This year, over 1700 exhibitors are participating delving into pressing topics such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and the infamous 5G.

One thing that struck a chord was the narrative being pushed that the telecommunication sector, and generally the rest of the world should bounce, jump or hop on board the 5G train, and fast.

Seizo Onoe, President at DOCOMO Tech highlighted to a room full of listening ears that although telecommunications is transforming, there are still more failures in partnerships than there are successes.

With adverts of 5G already rolling across our TV’s courtesy of the likes of EE, Data Economy will provide a round up list of what to do to get on board.

1. Cross industry collaborations

Cross industry collaborations has the power to make 5G a great success according to Onoe, adding that 5G will spread in a different way in comparison to previous generations.

5G was described as ‘just an expansion of 4G and 3G, set to enrich the end users’ experience.

New forms of collaborations will have to occur, which should encourage the likes of public cloud hyperscalers collaborating with landline telephony, as well as other collaborations of that nature.

2. The Singapore approach

Singapore sees a different 5G user-case from that of other jurisdictions, which lean towards using 5G for high-speed fixed-wireless last-mile coverage.

The approach is to envision 5G as an enabler to support the development of new innovative applications and services that will power the digital economy.

3. Changed mind-sets

One thing was clear from this event, it is not just about how fast the 5G network will be or how soon it will be deployed, it is about how the enterprises utilises it when it arrives to create value and deliver benefits to customers and end users.

4. Where 5G will live

In order to deliver next generation network capabilities to support massive numbers of devices and greater intelligence at the edge, it was said that 5G networks will need to be built on standalone architecture.

5. 5G at CoonecTechAsia

A key focus at CommunicAsia was the 5G Xperience zone at Marina Bay Sands hosted by South Korean telecommunications company KT Corporation.

It was an immersive sandbox where visitors watched 5G come to life, and the company also featured a 5g-powered AI robot.

“The world’s first pioneer to bring 5G to reality, South Korea’s KT is focusing on developing innovative 5G technologies and services such as AI, AR, SKYSHIP and satellite communications, showcased here at ConnecTechAisa,” said Yoon Jong-Jin, Senior Executive Vice President of Public Relations at KT Corporation.

“In the new 5G era, KT will transform from the largest national network operator into the world’s leading global intelligence platform by collaborating with innovative partners around the globe.”―Data Economy
