Five Things To Watch Out For Today

The Telecom Commission is likely to meet today to discuss TRAI’s recommendation on spectrum allocation. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has suggested that the spectrum reserve prices for frequencies that remained unsold in the 2016 edition should be lowered. The next round of spectrum auction will include radiowaves for 5G mobile services.

The JD(S)-Congress Coordination Committee meets today to iron out differences in the alliance that has arisen after Siddaramaiah’s remarks about becoming chief minister. This will be the third coordination committee meeting since the formation of the coalition government after the May polls threw up a hung assembly. The committee meeting is likely to be stormy as fissures between the coalition partners have started showing up months after the formation of the government.

Today is the last day for filing income-tax returns. Tax returns for 2017-18 (Assessment Year 2018-19) were originally to be filed by July 31. However, the deadline for assessees in Kerala is September 15 due to the floods. Apart from the penalty for late filing, the assessees will forego many benefits if they file their returns after due date.

Final arguments in the AIADMK MLA disqualification case is expected to be completed today in the Madras High Court. Justice Sathyanarayan is hearing the case after a Division Bench delivered a split verdict in the case on June 14. The 18 MLAs were disqualified on September 18 last year under the anti-defection law.

The Karnataka Cabinet will meet to assess the drought situation prevailing in several parts of the State.  The government is expected to take a decision on declaring the districts drought-hit. In Koppal and Yelaburga taluks, standing groundnut and maize crops have been affected due to the failure of rain. – The Hindu Business Line
