First 5G Nokia Smartphone Will Come Out In 2019, Could Be Nokia 9

5G is all set to revolutionise the mobile industry and every major tech brand is in line to make use of this next-gen mobile network. At an ongoing 4G/5G conference in Hong Kong, we got our first look at some of the brands that are on course to launch 5G smartphones next year. HMD Global is one of the companies in a list that also includes Asus, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo and Sony, among others. This means that we will be seeing the first 5G Nokia phone in 2019.

Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon said at the conference that 5G will be a commercial reality in 2019. “5G is the technology to connect everything, every time and we expect a number of generations of Android handsets coming on 5G in 2019,” he said. As 5G is expected to drive IoT further than ever, HMD will be among the first set of brands to launch 5G-supported smartphones.

The first 5G Nokia phone could be a flagship Amon announced at least two 5G flagships are expected to arrive in 2019. One of the flagship 5G phones will come from OnePlus in the first half of 2019, as the company’s co-founder Carl Pei confirmed it during the conference. The other flagship may be from HMD, and it could be the Nokia 9.

HMD is yet to announce a flagship Nokia smartphone this year and there have been reports that the company is delaying the launch of the rumoured Nokia 9 flagship to MWC in February. The Nokia 9 is tipped to be the world’s first phone with a penta-lens camera system. It may also just be HMD’s first 5G Nokia phone as well following the recent announcement. – India Today
