Fire In BSNL Godown Destroys Wires, Equipment Worth Rs 5 Lakh

In less than 36 hours, three incidents of fire took place in the district in which goods worth lakhs were gutted.

According to sources, the BSNL godown located in Almaspur locality of Nai Mandi area in the city caught fire, leading to an inferno on Saturday. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained. The telecom service provider’s officials said wires and equipment worth Rs 5 lakh were gutted. It took the fire tenders at least two hours to douse the fire.

The fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in the godown when employees were working in the office. As the flames panic spread in the area, Someone alerted the fire department. After getting information, two fire tenders rushed to spot and firefighters controlled the flames after struggling for hours.

A BSNL officer Jitender Kumar said, “I thought a spark fanned by the wind could trigger a massive fire outside the godown. Wires and other stuff worth Rs 5 lakh have been gutted.”

An officer from the fire department said, “The reason of the fire is not clear so far but we have controlled the fire and an investigation is on in the matter.”

In another incident, a massive fire spread in a sugarcane field in Mansoorpur area, destroying crop in about one of land. Fire tenders reached before the fire could spread to other fields, said Rishab Panwar, a fire officer.

Earlier on Friday, a massive fire gutted a bangle shop in Muzaffarnagar’s Khalapar colony, causing losses worth lakhs. Fire may have been triggered by a short circuit. It took three hours to douse it.―Times of India
