EU grants extension for antitrust decision on Orange and MasMovil merger

EU antitrust regulators have extended the deadline for their decision on French telecoms group Orange and Spanish rival MasMovil’s tie-up in Spain to Feb. 22, according to an update on the European Commission’s merger website.

The previous deadline was Feb. 15.

The EU competition enforcer usually extends deadlines while waiting for companies to provide requested information.

The Commission is set to approve the 18.6 billion euro ($19.96 billion) deal after the companies agreed to sell spectrum to Romania’s Digi and to give it an option for a national roaming service agreement, sources told Reuters last month. Reuters
