Ericsson Could Seek Royalties From HTC On Value Of Smartphones
HTC Corp. may have to pay more to license Ericsson’s patented technologies for mobile phones, despite its bid for royalties based on the costs of smaller phone components.
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas said Jan. 7 that Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson isn’t bound by an international policy to charge HTC for using wireless technology covered by its standard-essential patents solely based on the cost of device parts, such as chips.
