Elisa Receives EUR 100 Million Loan From Nordic Investment Bank To Develop 5G Network In Finland And Estonia

Elisa Corporation and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) have today signed a EUR 100 million loan arrangement. With the loan, NIB is supporting Elisa’s investments in 5G networks in Finland and in Estonia.

Elisa is Finland’s largest operator investor, with over EUR 200 million in capital expenditure investments annually in Finnish telecommunications infrastructure. In the coming years, investments are directed especially towards building the 5G network, starting at the beginning of 2019.

Elisa maintains an efficient capital structure, and with the new loan, NIB is financing Elisa’s investments in developing the Finnish and Estonian information societies.

“The loan to Elisa facilitates the expansion of 5G infrastructure in Finland and in Estonia. Investments in 5G are vital for the productivity of the Nordic–Baltic companies, as the new mobile network generates the knowledge accumulation in our member region’s technology sector”, saysHenrik Normann, NIB’s President and CEO.

“Elisa has been a pioneer in mobile communications in its core market for years. Today, Finns use the most mobile data in the world, and the majority of the usage is in Elisa’s network. Our next key investment target is the introduction of 5G networks. The needs of our customers as well as new applications and services require more and more features and speed. The investment funding from NIB will in part ensure that we can provide our customers with access to the very fast network and completely new services enabled by 5G”, says Elisa’s CEO, Veli-Matti Mattila.
