DoT to celebrate World Telecom Day today

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is celebrating World Telecom Day on May 17 in New Delhi.
“We are happy to announce the celebrations for World Telecom Day on 17th May 2023!” said Mc Satheesh Kumar, Deputy Administrator USOF, Ministry of Communications.
This year, World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) focuses on “Empowering the least developed countries through information and communication technologies.”
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has called on the public and private sectors to make pledges for universal connectivity and digital transformation in these countries through its Partner2Connect Digital Coalition.
The purpose of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICTs) can bring to societies and economies, as well as ways to bridge the digital divide. May 17 marks the anniversary of the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention and the creation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
