DoT invites registration under the PM-WANI framework

The Union Cabinet headed by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 09.12.2020 approved the proposal of Department of Telecom (DoT) to proliferate broadband through Public Wi-Fi networks under the framework of Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI). This framework takes forward the goal of National Digital Communications Policy, 2018 (NDCP) of creating a robust digital communications infrastructure.

Data Service (DS) Unit of Department of Telecommunications (Head Quarter) has issued Framework and Guidelines for Registration of different entities under the PM-WANI Framework available at Click Here. To facilitate ease of doing business and encourage local shops and small establishments to become Wi-Fi providers, it has been approved that the last-mile Public Wi-Fi providers require no license, no registration and also not required to pay any fee to DoT. Under the framework, App Providers, who will offer services for registering and authenticating users and PDOAs, who will aggregate the PDOs (Access Point providers), will only have to register and are not required to pay any fee to DoT. The registration process is an online process and will be completed within 7 working days of the receipt of applications.

Under the PM-WANI framework, registration of PDOAs and App provider shall begin from 07.01.2021 on SARAL SANCHAR (Simplified Application For Registration and Licenses) Click Here.

After successful generation of Registration Certificate, the registered applicant (PDOA or App provider) should contact the Central Registry (https://pmwani.cdot.in) being handled by C-DOT, for certification of their system and application software.

For facilitating registration of entities, a list of State Wise Nodal Officers is available at Click Here.
