DIPA seeks support to ensure telecom connectivity during floods

Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA) an apex industry body of digital infrastructure providers whose members include Indus Towers, ATC Telecom, Tower Vision, Ascend Telecom, Summit Digitel, Sterlite Technologies, Space Tele Infra, Suyog Telematics, V-Con Telecom Towers, iBus Network and energy solution companies like Applied Solar Technologies have written to Shri Pankaj Kumar, IAS Chief Secretary to the Government of Gujarat seeking urgent support and intervention to ensure smooth telecom operations, safety of telecom employees & 24*7 telecom connectivity during the floods in Gujarat.

Currently there are 42530 telecom towers deployed in Gujarat.

The letter states” Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA) seeks timely support/intervention during the floods impacting the districts of Gujarat. The association has been committed to contain the effect of the situation on telecom services and to ensure the availability of Telecom connectivity on 24*7 basis to meet this urgent/ emergent/ natural disaster situation.

T.R.Dua, Director-General, Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA), said,” All our IP members are closely monitoring the situation, coordinating with the the state officials for taking all the appropriate measures for minimising the impact of the floods. All the necessary steps like readiness of Cell on Wheels (CoWs), arrangement of spare batteries, adequate amount of diesel and DG sets(both fixed and mobile), readiness of teams for rectification of the likely damages to telecom installations and accommodation of the telecom personnel at the stations have been taken care of.”

DIPA has written to the Government of Gujarat seeking urgent support and intervention on the matters list includes unrestricted movement of front line field staff/technicians of telecom Infrastructure Providers (IP-1) for accessing telecom tower sites for Operation and Maintenance work, availability of Diesel for telecom tower sites, availability of uninterrupted and priority electricity for telecom tower sites, Contact Details of dedicated Nodal Officers from Electricity Dept./DISCOMs, Home (Police), Petroleum and Cell on Wheels deployment.
