DIPA applauds Telengana govt for launching state’s online RoW portal

Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA), an apex industry body representing Digital Infrastructure providers industry in India praised the Government of Telengana for launching the State’s online RoW portal.

DIPA, the leading digital industry association have been making enormous efforts for launch of RoW portal through joint meeting, submissions with various advisories and directions by Department of Telecom (DoT).

The right of way (RoW) rules, notified way back in November 2016, provides for a framework to give approvals for setting up of telecom towers and laying of fiber cables and settle disputes in a time-bound manner, as well as improve coordination between companies and the State government authorities and local bodies. It also prescribes for setting up a web-based online portal for single window clearance mechanism to ensure timebound approvals.

Applauding the State Government of Telengana, T.R.Dua, Director-General, Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA), said, “To implement the vision of Digital India Program launched in 2015, Government of India through Department of Telecommunications (DoT) came out with the Indian Telegraph Right of Way (RoW) Rules 2016 which were gazette notified in November 2016 for adoption by all State Governments and Union Territories in India. We are thankful to the State Government of Telengana for launching the RoW portal in the state which will enable the creation of a robust digital telecom infrastructure and provide seamless connectivity to the people of Telengana.”

The RoW rules notified in November 2016 have several enabling features such as no restriction on location of telecom towers, single window clearance mechanism, defined time-period for approvals, appointment of Nodal officers, nominal administration fees and deemed approvals etc. extensively supporting the Digital India mission.
