Creating a roadmap for semiconductor R&D in India

A Committee has been constituted to create a roadmap for semiconductor R&D in India. It comprises of representatives from industry, academia and government. This is subsequent to the Union Cabinet’s approval of a comprehensive programme for Development of Semiconductors and Display Manufacturing Ecosystem in the country on December 15, 2021.

Experts from Industry include Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD, Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd; Sri Samavedam, Senior VP, IMEC; Surinder Singh, Ex-Director, SCL, Mohali; Hem Takiar, VP, Micron Technology; Ravi Mahajan, Intel Fellow; Umesh Mishra, Distinguished Professor, University of California; Mukesh Khare, GM, IBM Semiconductors; and Dr. Charan Gurumurthy, Head, OSAT, Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd.

Experts from Academia include Prof. Rao Tummala, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA; Prof. Udayan Ganguly; Prof. Mainak Chauduri, IIT Kanpur; Prof. Shanthi Pavan, IIT Madras; and Dr. Goutam Chattopadhyay, Visiting Associate, California Institute of Technology.

Experts from Government include Group Coordinator (R&D in Electronics), MeitY; CEO India Semiconductor Mission; and Nishit Gupta, Scientist ‘E’, MeitY, Member-Convener.
