Coolpad Names Former Samsung and TCL Innovation Leader John Choi as VP of New Product Planning & Innovation

Coolpad Technologies, Inc., a leading global smartphone technology brand, today announced that John Choi has joined the company as Vice President of New Product Planning & Innovation. Choi will be responsible for directing the company’s IoT, Wearables and Artificial Intelligence product planning and innovation initiatives from concept through to market launch.

Choi will lead the team who will be the first in the U.S. to deliver a 4G LTE connected kids smartwatch later in 2018. Based on Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon Wear platform, the device will be designed for young children and act as a phone, a watch, a GPS device, an activity tracker, and learning platform.

“We are thrilled to have the caliber and expertise of John Choi to lead the company during this phase of growth,” said Brandy Kang, CEO of Coolpad Americas. “John joins at an exciting time as the U.S. wearables market is growing at a compounding rate and we believe that demand for niche wearables that solve specific needs will only increase.”

“I look forward to collaborating with one of the best design, research and engineering teams in the industry to create meaningful, customer-focused products,” said John Choi, VP of New Product Planning & Innovation. “Our innovative DNA and approach to solving problems for our consumers will allow Coolpad to break new ground in the wearables and IoT space.”

Prior to joining Coolpad, Choi held leadership positions at Samsung Electronics where he led new product concept planning for devices such as Galaxy S3 and the Samsung Gear series, and more recently at TCL Communications (US) where he grew the Alcatel portfolio for its North America business.

John holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Systems Engineering, a Master’s Degree in e-Business Management from The University of Warwick in the UK, and an MBA from the Marshall School of Business at The University of Southern California. He also holds multiple patents related to product design and product experience.-  PR Web
