Cell Towers To Put Cantt On Mobile Phone Network From August

For residents within and around Bareilly Cantonment facing problems due to poor mobile network, here is some good news. The Bareilly Cantt Board (BCB) has floated tenders inviting bids for installation of cellular towers on wheels (CoW) at six locations in the area for better mobile service and internet connectivity.

BCB engineer RK Maheshwari said all paperwork would be completed by June-end. “If everything goes smoothly, CoW will start working from August this year,” he said.

Maheshwari said in order to mitigate mobile connectivity problems in the cantonment area, work to set up CoWs in civil areas was on in accordance with the guidelines issued by the ministry of defence in February 2018.

Last year, BCB authorities had invited expression of interest from interested companies for installation of CoWs and three companies had applied for the same.

“Service providing companies proposed as many as 24 prospective sites within Cantt limits where CoW can be installed and out of these, we earmarked six locations on class C and B 4 defence land under CEO management. No static tower will be erected on defence land,” he said.

Residents of Sadar Bazar and BI Bazar in the Cantt area have for long been facing inconvenience due to poor connectivity of mobile network in the absence of any mobile tower in the vicinity. They were forced to use landline phones for making and receiving calls as well as for availing Internet services.

Welcoming the decision, shopkeepers at BI Bazar and Sadar Bazar said, “It was our long pending demand. Once the CoWs are placed in the Cantt area, we wouldn’t have to go elsewhere to make a call on our mobile phone.”―Times of India
