BSNL Services Will Take 2 More Days To Be Restored

Mobile phone services of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is likely to be restored in coastal districts, including Cuttack, in two days, claimed a top BSNL official on Saturday.

Restoration of Internet connectivity has been prioritised as several major educational institutions, health facilities and banks are badly affected.

“Internet and broadband connectivity will be restored tonight,” said Meena Mallick , in-charge of BSNL office, Bajarakabati Road here. Landline repair work will take more time, she said.

A fire broke out in the third floor of BSNL office at 11.30am on Friday. According to official records, 700 metres of cupper wire were gutted due to electric short circuit. Several documents and equipment were destroyed in the fire. “Properties worth Rs 14 lakh have been estimated to have damaged,” said Mallick.

As many as 23,000 landline and 16,000 broadband connections in Cuttack district and adjacent places have been affected. More than four lakh mobile phone connections were snapped, she said.

“Telephone and internet services are baldy affected in Dhenkanal, Angul, Talcher, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Narshingpur, Badamba , Salepur, Kendrapada, Choudwar, Athagarh and Paradip,” informed a BSNL official.

Electricity was restored in the building on Friday evening. “The repair work is being done on a war-footing. We will use 700 metres of new cupper wire to restore broadband and internet services tonight,” informed Meena.

More than 100 engineers and technicians have been engaged 24×7 in repair work.

Mobile switch centre, which is located in ground floor, was damaged in the fire. Two major transmission machines caught fire and were fully destroyed.

“We have ordered new machines from Bhubaneswar,” she added.―Times of India
