State-run telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IIT Madras and Anna University, Chennai, to create new opportunities for students and professionals in the telecom industry. This collaboration aims to foster public-private partnerships and expand BSNL’s 4G and 5G networks on the campuses of these renowned educational institutions.
BSNL recognizes the significant revenue potential in the telecom sector, which is experiencing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10% in India. With its agreement with IIT Madras and Anna University, BSNL is taking steps to capitalize on this growth and enhance the skill sets of students and young professionals.
As part of this collaboration, IIT Madras will be launching a one-year international course in telecom technology and management in partnership with BSNL. This course will equip students with the necessary knowledge and expertise to thrive in the rapidly evolving telecom industry. Additionally, short-term telecom technology courses (STTC) will be introduced to bridge the gap between industry and academia, improving the employability of students.
BSNL will establish labs at various campuses of Anna University in Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, and Nagercoil to conduct these STTC courses. The aim is to eventually expand these courses to approximately 450 affiliated and constituent colleges across Tamil Nadu.
Furthermore, BSNL will expand its 4G and 5G networks to cover IIT Madras and Anna University campuses, with plans to extend this network infrastructure to other colleges in the future.
In addition to supporting educational initiatives, BSNL has also committed to prioritizing startups from IIT Madras Pravartak. These startups will have access to BSNL’s extensive infrastructure and network solutions for their business development.
The signing of this MoU was formalized in the presence of BSNL & MTNL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Pravin Kumar Purwar, along with key stakeholders such as the directors of IIT Madras and the vice chancellor of Anna University.
This partnership between BSNL, IIT Madras, and Anna University demonstrates a shared commitment to technological growth and educational excellence. By leveraging each other’s strengths, they aim to create a conducive environment for innovation, learning, and employment opportunities in the telecom sector. ISP Today
