BSNL & ECIL sign a 3-year MoU collaborating on SD-WAN

State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) on Friday signed a three-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on software-defined wide area network (SDWAN), cybersecurity, smart meters, surveillance systems, and eSCADA with the objective of offering an ecosystem of cost-effective products under the Make in India (MII) mode.

“The MoU enables BSNL to promote indigenous technology development with an aim to meet the government’s “Make in India” Initiative,” said BSNL in a statement.

BSNL also intends to transition from a network services provider to a managed connectivity provider by collaborating with strategic partners across the IT and telecom segment, the statement added. The telco already offers a comprehensive range of services to public, government, and private organisations in B2B and B2C segments.

On the other, ECIL is an enterprise under the Department of Atomic Energy and undertakes specialised projects of national importance in various fields, including defence, homeland security, aerospace, satellite communications, networking.

ECIL is actively involved in manufacturing crucial systems for the Indian government and it is aligning itself with the ‘Make in India’ initiative to manufacture SD-WAN, routers, switches, GPON, and surveillance cameras.

“ECIL’s state of the art manufacturing facilities and cutting edge innovation of ECIL will be leveraged with the widespread network of BSNL across India to offer value based offerings to customers across all B2B and B2C segments. The MOU enables BSNL to roll out indigenous offerings similar to 4G network rollout,” said V Ramesh, Director Enterprise, BSNL.

“ECIL is well equipped with systems and processes to develop telecom and IT equipments of current relevance in the Telecom market and would be promoting proper supply chain management of the SD-WAN, routers, radios, switches which can be deployed by BSNL in their network,” said A K Sharma, Director (Technical), ECIL.
