Brazil’s AmericaNet expands into Goiás with ISP acquisition

São Paulo-based internet service provider (ISP) AmericaNet closed yet another acquisition, expanding its footprint in the country’s interior and mid-western region.

For an undisclosed sum, the company purchased ISP Opyt, whose fixed broadband operations are concentrated in Goiás state, M&A boutique firm IT Investimentos said in a release.

IT Investimentos is supporting AmericaNet with its inorganic operations.

Opyt was founded in 2006 under the Nemesis brand. In 2017, the company pivoted its business and started to invest in the deployment of fiber-based broadband.

Considered a small ISP, Opyt operates in 16 Goiás cities with around 50,000 subscribers and a 4,000km network. AmericaNet had more than 940,000 contracts as of July, among fixed broadband (486,000), fixed telephony (316,100) and mobile telephony (139,300), according to data from telecom regulator Anatel.

Roughly 99% of the broadband base comprises fiber optic accesses and it is the 10th largest fixed broadband player in Brazil. Bnamericas
