Big boost to digital infrastructure industry

The release of RoW Rules Amendment and launch of 5G RoW Application form on GatiShakti Sanchar Portal is a big boost for digital infrastructure industry promoting “Ease of Doing Business”, bringing transparency, accountability and responsiveness to all telecom stake holders while processing the application. Also providing a strong mechanism to achieve the National Digital Communication Policy-2018 goal of “ Broadband to All”.

The telecom sector has evolved significantly over the past year, driven by the government’s efforts to ease the financial burden of telcos and promote the deployment of digital infrastructure.

The advent of the Gati Shakti Sanchar Portal is proving to be a game-changer in terms of getting long-awaited RoW applications approved quickly and efficiently. It also provides a strong mechanism to achieve the National Digital Communication Policy-2018 goal of “Broadband to All”.

Akhil Gupta, Chairman, Digital Infrastructure Providers Association, said,” Department of Telecommunications(DoT) has done a phenomenal job of convincing the states to adopt the right-of-way (RoW) rules and onboarding them on the GatiShakti Sanchar Portal . There have been enormous efforts and it has been a very hard ride with DoT, National Broadband Mission Directorate and the Digital Infrastructure Providers Association walking hand in hand and going to every state to accelerate adoption. The telecom industry has noticed a significant reduction in the time taken to get permissions for the installation of telecom towers and the laying of optical fibre cables across all states since the portal’s inception.”

Telecom Towers are key in the era of 5G with the number of Telecom Subscribers rising every day while the average demand per user of data simultaneously grows.

T.R.Dua, Director-General, Digital Infrastructure Providers Association, said, “ The release of Right of Way (RoW) Rules Amendment and launch of 5G RoW Application form on GatiShakti Sanchar Portal by Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railways will ease RoW related permission procedures for establishment and augmentation of digital communications infrastructure across the country. With a robust pan India digital infrastructure, the digital divide between rural-urban and rich-poor will be bridged. Ultimately it will be an acceleration towards achieving the dream of India’s transition to a digitally empowered economy and society will be translated into a reality. These amendments in place now, will go a long way in creating necessary infrastructure to cater to forthcoming 5G rollouts in the country.”
