BIF elated at approval granted for PM-WANI

“We are elated that the DoT and TRAI’s pathbreaking recommendation on use of the WANI interface for seamlessly delivering Wi-Fi services to the citizens via public data offices (PDOs), public data office aggregators (PDOAs) and app providers, has been approved by the Union Cabinet. BIF has consistently supported this vital measure for enabling unlicensed entities to deliver Wi-Fi services at the grassroots level which will help boost broadband proliferation across the nation significantly, converting the people into digital citizens.

At the same time, this will also lead to explosive growth in business and employment opportunities for small local or village-level entrepreneurs, the kirana stores, tea-shops, etc., especially in rural areas; thereby propelling socio-economic development and inclusion, as well as rural digital connectivity. This may very well mirror the success of the UPI interface in digital payments, as it would facilitate similar ‘liberalisation of access’ and enable great outreach and utility for the public.

We would like to congratulate the Government, as well as the Regulator on this historic step towards the cause of Liberalisation and the achievement of the Visions of ‘Digital India’ and ‘Broadband for All’, that will unleash immeasurable benefits to the citizens of India, the economy and the entire nation.” TV Ramachandran, President, Broadband India Forum
