Biden said to pick Alphabet chair, others to lead next-gen chip efforts

The Biden Administration has reportedly picked Alphabet’s chairman to help usher in efforts to spur research and development for next-generation semiconductors.

The administration picked John Hennessy, who in addition to chairing the tech giant, is also a computer science professor at Stanford University, along with four other experts from the tech industry for the matter, Reuters reported, citing unnamed U.S. officials.

The appointments are slated to be made by the Commerce Department on Tuesday and will be responsible for picking the board of trustees for the National Semiconductor Technology Center, the news outlet added.

The NSTC is responsible for research on next-gen chips as a result of the CHIPs Act, the roughly $53B legislation signed last year by President Biden to aid the domestic semiconductor industry. MSN
