Jai Menon suffered a brain stroke yesterday, that proved to be fatal.
Menon, a top ranked alumnus of IIT-Delhi, started his career at IBM’s T. J. Watson Research Labs, USA and rose to become an IBM executive where he assumed the office of Executive Director in IBM’s Software Group, leading worldwide research-to-market business for rich media.
He has also served as Corporate Officer and Executive Vice President at AT&T (formerly BellSouth), USA where he managed a portfolio of growth businesses and strategic alliances.
Menon was also the architect of Bharti Airtel’s partnership with Google Inc. and other technology firms across the world. He also has more than 30 patents to his name, acquired prior to joining Bharti. He was considered the driver of Airtel’s hugely successful 10-year $750 million outsourcing deal with IBM.
Menon served Bharti Airtel as a group chief information officer (CIO) from 2002 to 2010, holding a Board membership position, and later served the parent company Bharti Enterprises as a chief information officer (CIO) and group director.
In 2014, he had resigned from Airtel and joined the leadership team of HT Media Ltd as group director.
