AT&T Invests Nearly $7.0 Billion Over 3-Year Period to Boost Local Networks In Texas

At AT&T1, we’ve invested nearly $7.0 billion in our Texas wireless and wired networks during 2015-2017. These investments boost reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and businesses. They also improve critical services that support public safety and first responders.

In 2017, AT&T made 1,903 wireless network upgrades in Texas. Notable [Texas] network enhancements in 2017 included the addition 108 small cells, 28 LTE bandwidth expansions, 457 LTE capacity adds, 4 new site builds, and 7 in-building distributed antenna systems (DAS).

“Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed legislation that encourages companies to invest more in wireless infrastructure. The AT&T LTE network now covers more than 400 million people in North America.  By building out our 4G LTE network, we’re laying the foundation for 5G, the next advance in network technologies. We’re boosting network speeds and capacity, as we continue to expand the availability of our network using the latest technology. We announced plans to bring 5G to Dallas and Waco this year. We announced LTE-LAA availability in AustinDallasHoustonMcAllen, and San Antonio. We’re also launching 5G Evolution in nearly 30 cities across Texas.

FirstNet is a new nationwide communications platform dedicated to America’s public safety community. As we build, deploy and evolve FirstNet, we will build upon our current and planned investments in Texas to help ensure public safety’s network delivers the coverage and cutting-edge capabilities first responders expect – today and for decades to come.
