From enhanced mobile broadband to the IoT, the T&M specialist enables stable and secure connections for all types of wireless communications.
Present with two booths, the device and infrastructure testing booth displays solutions for chipsets, mobile devices, and network infrastructure testing as well as cyber security. At the mobile network testing booth, Rohde & Schwarz and its subsidiary SwissQual, display the latest developments in mobile network testing technology for applications such as benchmarking, network optimization, field services, and service-quality monitoring under the motto, More value out of your network.
Device and infrastructure testing. Rohde & Schwarz displays its latest T&M solutions for chipsets, devices, and network components for today’s LTE/LTE-Advanced and tomorrow’s 5G standards. A large part of the booth is devoted to IoT. Visitors are also be able view test solutions for radio communications in automobiles and for secure IP communications.
Visions are turning into reality with 5G. So for the first time, Rohde & Schwarz is presenting 5G test solutions in the 28 GHz band. An R&S SMW200A generates 5GTF candidate waveforms, and an R&S FSW signal analyzer with an internal bandwidth of up to 1.2 GHz analyzes them. The new R&S NRPM OTA Power Measurement Solution allows T&M specialists to precisely measure and calibrate the power of beamforming antennas and antenna arrays in the far field.
For RF tests on LTE-Advanced components, the R&S CMW500 already supports 5CC 4×4 MIMO transmissions with a data rate of up to 2 Gbps. The IoT exhibit features narrowband IoT application tests in line with the latest 3GPP Release 13 specifications, for example. Other solutions are presented for measuring the battery lifetime of IoT components and embedded designs under realistic network conditions and for the new Bluetooth® 5 standard.
Mobile network testing. At the mobile network testing booth, realistic measurement scenarios such as a network engineering lab, outdoor drive test, operation center, and a base station are recreated to demonstrate test solutions in their application environments. Of particular interest is the pioneering 5G network coverage demonstrator solution up to 28 GHz. The technically advanced range of solutions covering IoT and 4×4 MIMO to ViLTE and VoWiFI encompasses benchmarking, network optimization, video quality measurements, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting – all designed to deliver more value out of the network.
Anritsu is demonstrating its testing capabilities for LoRa devices. In a joint collaboration with IMST, Anritsu is showing its preliminary version of a LoRa test measurement suite including RF transmitter and receiver tests of LoRa devices for production lines. The demonstration of the first one-box test solution for LoRa measurements is done using the Anritsu MT8870A Universal Wireless Test Set and the IMST LoRa module iM880B-L, a product certified by the LoRa Alliance.
LoRa is a low-power wide area network (LPWAN) wireless technology intended for many IoT applications, such as smart metering, remote control, and home automation. With new additions to the LoRaWAN specification, comprehensive RF and protocol testing has become mandatory for device vendors, to ensure device coexistence and guarantee RF performance, in a rapidly growing ecosystem.
The iM880B-L module is an ultra-long-range radio based on Semtech’s patented LoRa technology. It is an ideal solution for applications requiring long-range, secure radio links within the 868 MHz frequency band. The iM880B-L can achieve a sensitivity of more than –137 dBm, which combined with the integrated +20 dBm power amplifier, makes it optimal for any application requiring range or robustness.
The Anritsu MT8870A Universal Wireless Test Set and the Anritsu MS2830A Vector Signal Analyzer/Vector Signal Generator support the key RF transmitter and receiver measurements to guarantee device quality. The MS2830A provides a one-box test solution for R&D and compliance of regulatory tests, whereas the MT8870A is the perfect fit for production where speed, reliability, and cost are important.
Cobham Wireless is demonstrating software-defined 5G user equipment (UE) simulator, based on Verizon’s open 5G standard, which can test downlink throughput of 10 Gbps. The company is also showcasing an IoT proof-of-concept (PoC) solution, which is able to emulate up to one million 5G IoT devices, validating network performance in preparation for IoT connectivity.
The vendor is demonstrating how service providers can test their networks in preparation for deploying 5G connectivity. This includes testing anticipated 5G downlink throughput of up to 10 Gbps, which ensures it can perform to the high standards for delivering 5G services.
The UE simulator can also support multiple simultaneous 5G air interfaces, which are compatible with various wireless standards, including 3GPP’s 5G New Radio (5GNR). The solution features programmable data logging and signal visualization capabilities to enable early 5G air interface integration testing and debugging. The demonstration is in collaboration with National Instruments, which provided the 5G programmable radio frequency (RF) front-end PoC solution.
In addition, Cobham Wireless’ 5G IoT PoC solution can demonstrate how service providers will be able to support the scale, density, and complexity of 5G’s massive IoT test requirements.
NI’s RF solutions span from design to test. Manufacturers around the world enjoy increased throughput and reduced footprint by using software-defined instruments to test wireless standards such as GSM/EDGE, UMTS, LTE/LTE-A, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth, GPS, or Glonass – all within one test system. NI also collaborates with top researchers in the industry and academia on wireless research, specifically 5G wireless communications, enabling them to rapidly prototype 5G communication systems, such as millimeter wave and massive MIMO. Combining NI software-defined radio platforms and LabVIEW communications system design software, they reduce the time from theory to results by testing their designs in a real-world environment.
