Apple may launch a cheaper iPhone next year with 4.7-inch display

Apple‘s cheapest iPhone is due for an update in 2022 and it seems the rumour mill is busy with speculations about what could be coming. There have been several reports on the iPhone SE 3 lately and that it will launch in 2022. A new rumour, however, states that Apple will not launch the iPhone SE 3 next year but will instead bring out the iPhone SE Plus. The iPhone SE Plus will be 5G ready and could be powered by the A15 Bionic. This comes shortly after rumours that the iPhone SE 3 would be designed based on the iPhone XR. The iPhone SE 3 for now is said to be postponed to 2024.

iPhone SE Plus could launch next year
The iPhone SE is an entry-level iPhone, which combines high-end performance is a compact and affordable package. The iPhone SE 2020 has done well in emerging markets like India where the cost of flagship iPhones are sky-high. Apple intends to build on the success of the iPhone SE 2020 and will launch a new and improved version of the smartphone. Rumours had earlier suggested that an iPhone SE 3 would be to be expected this spring. However, now it seems that Apple might postpone the iPhone SE 3 to 2024 in favour of the iPhone SE Plus.

Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), took to Twitter and mentioned that we would be looking out for the iPhone SE Plus instead of the iPhone SE 3. The iPhone SE Plus is now believed to be scheduled for 2022. The phone is said to come with an iPhone 8-like design, with a 4.7-inch LCD display. The internals will be upgraded to offer 5G support. We expect to see either the A14 Bionic or A15 Bionic chip power the iPhone SE Plus.

Ross also adds that the iPhone SE 3, which has now been pushed to 2024, will feature a 5.7-inch to 6.1-inch display. This back previous reports that the iPhone SE 3 will be based on the iPhone XR’s design. Apple is also said to be will be sticking to a 2-year update cycle for the iPhone SE line.
