Airtel to Roll Out 8,000 New Sites, 4,200 Km of OFC

Bharti Airtel, will add 8000 new telecom sites and 4200 km of optical fiber cable (OFC) in Maharashtra & Goa circle this financial year. The new additions, which are part of its network expansion program Project Leap, will help to expand the company’s mobile data footprint. The roll-out would mean addition of one new site per hour in these two States, but a single telecom circle, excluding Mumbai. In FY2017-18, the company had deployed more than 7000 new sites and more than 2600 KMs of optic fiber in the region. Airtel’s network now covers more than 27000 towns and villages in the region with 19500 mobile broadband sites. With this roll-out, number of Airtel’s mobile sites in Maharashtra and Goa would go up by 25 percent to 38000. Also, the addition of fresh optic fiber would extend its fiber backbone to 21600 KMs in the region.
