291 More Railway Stations To Get Free Wi-Fi Facility By Sept

After providing Wi-Fi facility in 67 stations, north western railways (NWR) is now aiming at extending this facility to almost every station excluding the ones which do not have station masters. In this series, the authorities are planning to extend this facility to 291 more stations by September 31. This will include smaller stations like the D and E class remote stations.

On May 14, 2016, Jaipur railway station got the facility and since its inception the facility is very popular among the rail passengers. While waiting for their trains, the passengers are into watching, downloading videos. On Sunday, many passengers enjoyed seamless telecast of the much-awaited India versus Pakistan match prior to catching their train to various destinations.

Authorities said that the railways is planning to extend the facility to even smaller stations and aims at extending it to every station. “Only the halt stations which do not have station masters would be spared. We are aiming at extending the facility to 291 more stations,” said Abhay Sharma, chief public relations officer, NWR told TOI.

Presently 14 stations of Ajmer division, 22 of Bikaner division, 14 of Jaipur division and 17 of Jodhpur division of north western railways have the Wi-Fi facility. “We have not only started this facility in A1, A and B class stations but we have also included the D and E class stations like Nasirabad (Ajmer), Mahajan (Bikaner), Asalpur Jobner (Jaipur) and Pokaran (Jaisalmer),” said an officer with the NWR.―Times of India
