Case Study: VAS infrastructure products deployment
Thursday, 03 December 2009

Client : Leading telecom operator with more than 65 million subscriber base, operational in 21 circles divided as four zones

Project : VAS infrastructure deployment

Vendor : TeleDNA

Details of the project

As part of capacity expansion, BSNL was looking at end-to-end value added service provider with matured platforms that are highly scalable and flexible, fulfilling integration and customization needs.

Challenge

Critical Challenge was to deploy the VAS infrastructure products in complex network having multi-vendor network elements. Core network consists of SSTPs/STPs/GMSCs/MSCs of ALU, Siemens, Motorola, Nortel, NSN, Ericsson and Huawei. The Prepay IN Servers are from various vendors like ALU, Ericsson, NSN, Huawei etc. As the network is a combination of legacy, 2G and 2.5G with 3G ready features, VAS elements required to support multiple interfaces like SS7, SIGTRAN towards core network, CORBA, XML/IP and DIAMETER towards Prepay IN, SMPP 3.4/5.0, HTTP, Parlay-X towards Content providers etc.

Solutions

As part of capacity expansion BSNL was looking at end-to-end value added service provider with matured platforms that are highly scalable and flexible, fulfilling integration and customization needs.

The key criteria of choosing VAS partner for such a large size project was:

Company having sustainability and offers long term project commitments. Has a mature team (Product, R&D, and Implementation) that could customize, integrate and deploy the solution in a timely manner to meet aggressive project schedules. Systems should meet high capacity requirements to serve BSNL's huge subscriber base of about 65 million.

Apart from above, the VAS platforms should have 99.999 percent availability meeting the stringent quality norms of customer and related quality organizations. Moreover all the products should be feature rich, complying with the TEC [Telecommunications Engineering Center] Generic Requirements (GR).

TeleDNA deployed cost effective innovative versatile solutions that fits into legacy and new network deployments. The deployed solutions are feature rich, highly scalable, and flexible meeting present and future requirements.

Looking at successful installation and integration of TeleDNA's product with its complex network, BSNL placed order for the other TeleDNA products like Wireless Application Protocol Gateway (WAPGW) required for internet browsing over mobile and Service Delivery Platform (SDP) which helps BSNL by providing better billing and content management and subscribers a single point for accessing various services and contents.

Conclusion

TeleDNA is proud to provide end to end solution to BSNL by installing TeleDNA's cutting edge products in BSNL network. The TeleDNA products apart from serving majority of mobile subscribers of BSNL's 65 million subscriber base is also providing benefits like ease of management and high availability to BSNL.
