Background: T-Mobile is one of the key players in the global telecommunications industry. Not surprisingly therefore T-Mobile Czech Republic is at the forefront of mobile phone technology in the Czech Republic. It already has more than 4 million customers in this region and covers 99 percent of the Czech population. It is also leading the way in offering its customers state of the art technologies such as GPRS, UMTS (3G), and WLAN.

Challenge

As a result of its expansion, T-Mobile Czech Republic needed a new headquarters to accommodate its Prague employees at one location. The new purpose built eight storey building at the outskirts of Prague would house over 1500 employees working in a variety of functions including customer service, product development, and other head office functions such as sales, marketing, and finance.

When designing the new network infrastructure within the building, it was imperative that it would be able to expand in line with the company's future growth. It was also equally important that it would be resilient to all the demands placed on it'given the fact that T-Mobile Czech Republic operates at the cutting edge of mobile technology; these would be band-width consuming applications.

Solution

T-Mobile Czech Republic specified a Molex Premise Networks cabling solution. This 17,000 point installation featured Molex's Category 6 Solution'PowerCat 6 as well as MT-RJ fiber connectivity. The PowerCat 6 solution selected by T-Mobile Czech Republic is indeed testimony to Molex's commitment to producing innovative products to the highest possible standards. This range incorporates the new Datagate Plus jack in its patch panel and wall outlets. This connector features an integral shutter that not only protects from dust and contaminants, but by virtue of its spring-loaded design, can eject any patch cords that are improperly inserted, thereby virtually eliminating the problem of faulty connections.

The Installation

This installation generates some impressive statistics: 880km of category 6 cables and 14km of single mode and multimode fiber optic cables were installed. In addition, the new building featured 21 communication rooms containing a total of 130 cabinets. Approximately 60 percent of the 17,000 points were housed in floor boxes, the other 270 were contained in wall outlets and the 4800 MTRJ points were in cabinets. It was calculated that this network cabling installation would take 9 months. One of Molex Premise Networks certified installers'PVT, as a system integrator of computer and telecommunication technologies was appointed to undertake this installation because of its expertise in successfully managing project installations of a similar size and time scale.
