S Tel has been asked by the Department of Telecommunications to immediately stop its mobile services in Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Orissa, owing to security concerns. The company has mobile licences for Himachal Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Assam circles, but is operational only in the first three, with a subscriber base of over 800,000. The service provider has decided that it would not stop offering mobile services unless the DoT gives details of the security concerns that led to the shutdown order. The company, in a communication to the DoT has also said that it should be given a chance to address the concerns before such an order was implemented. STel told the DoT that it had fulfilled all terms and conditions to get mobile licences and had launched services only after getting all regulatory approvals. |
