Huawei opens its first LTE lab in Asia Pacific
Monday, 29 June 2009

Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. launched a Long Term Evolution (LTE) lab in Otemachi, Tokyo, Japan. The lab, which is Huawei’s first in Asia Pacific, will enable its research and development team in Japan to work with local operators to conduct rigorous tests on LTE systems before delivery. In addition, the lab will also serve as an incubator for LTE technologies and as a training facility for the implementation and commercialization of the next-generation wireless technology. The Huawei LTE Lab offers a full suite of the latest testing facilities and a real-world environment in which tests such as peak throughput, latency, multi-users, quality of service (QoS), handover, Element-level Management System (EMS) operation and Self-Organizing Network (SON) can be conducted. The lab’s downlink data rate at application layer can reach 140 Mbps through a single remote radio unit (RRU) with 20 Mhz bandwidth. It is also equipped with Huawei’s fourth-generation DBS3900 base station and the latest versions of commercial LTE software and test terminals. Facilities at the world-class lab, which include a unified service node (USN) and unified gateway (UGW), will enable Huawei to develop evolved packet core (EPC) solutions for LTE as well as other access networks, and build on its Home Subscriber Server (HSS) and application server solutions, and wireless network management system.
